Ralph Donald Pollard

Obituary Condolences

Ralph Donald Pollard of Rio Dell passed away on January 13, 2012 at age of 82. He is survived by Fern, his wife of over 50 years; his daughters Sandra Jarman and Renee Pollard, as well as granddaughters Alana Pucci (Rick), Ashley Jarman, and Nikki and Samantha Foyster. His great-grandchildren are Kaeden and Ella Pucci, and Neveah and Avah Foster. He was preceded in death by his parents Mary and Ralph D. Pollard, and brothers Howard, Lloyd and Stanley Pollard; and son Daniel (Danny) Pollard and granddaughter Andrea DeMille. Ralph (Don) was a lifelong resident of the Rio Dell area. He was born at home in Redcrest on March 8,1929. He and his brothers were raised mainly on Monument Mountain and walked to grammar school in Rio Dell. He served in the US Army from 1948-50, and won recognition as an outstanding member of the Military Police Company at the Presidio and Fort Ord. Don worked in the woods as a timber faller for many years, and aided the State Forestry as a faller of fire snags during fire seasons. For ten years, he and Fern operated the gift shop at the Eternal Tree House in Redcrest. Don crafted beautiful clocks, bowls and other household gift items from redwood burl that he collected himself. Don and his family loved to camp, especially by the ocean. The many weekends spent at the coast included delicious meals with abalone that Don would skindive for and Fern would prepare over the campfire. Don's family lovingly remember him (Pa) as a kind and hardworking man. At Don's request, there will be no services. Anyone that wishes, may give a donation in his son Danny's name to support diabetes research. Arrangements are under the direction of Goble's Fortuna Mortuary, Fortuna California.
