LINDA CARTER 1/11/48 - 1/4/13 On January 4, 2013 we lost a much loved and well respected woman, Linda Carter. She was taken from us suddenly while visiting her family in Portland over the holidays. We are all shocked and sadden by her loss. We are comforted by the thought that she is once again with her beloved twin sister Lena, brother Albert, and their mother Mary. Linda grew up in Humboldt County as one of six children to mother Mary and father Henry Leal. She graduated from Eureka High School along with her twin sister Lena in 1966. She was married and had her only child, Steve in 1970. Though she had several opportunities to join her sister in Southern California, Eureka was her home and she remained here for her whole life. She loved the natural beauty, and small town atmosphere. She loved having her friends and family close and most of all loved her job. Linda retired in June 2011 after 41 years with Humboldt County courts. Her role at the courthouse was so much more to her than a job or a career; it was her life. Linda prided herself on being a professional of the courts, but she most enjoyed the personal relationships she had with her coworkers and the legal community. At her many retirement functions, she was deeply affected by the kind words and stories that were told; the overwhelming level of respect shown left a lasting impression that touched Linda deeply. Given her renowned work ethic, and passion for her job, you might be surprised to know that she was embracing retirement. She delayed her retirement a few times, but she quickly grew to love the new found freedom that she had. She started to travel extensively and in the years ahead likely would have become Linda the world traveler. Her life had an impact on all of us. She will forever be missed. Linda is survived by her son Steve, brothers Larry, Manual and Henry along with nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends, as well as countless lives she touched along the way. Please join us as we honor Linda's life at a memorial service this coming Friday, January 11th at 12:00 noon at Pierce Mortuary, 707 H Street, Eureka, with reception to follow at Eureka's Woman's Club.
