Colinda Gutierrez

Obituary Condolences

Colinda Gutierrez Colinda was born in French Camp, California on July 20, 1957 and she died February 6, 2013 at the age of 55 after many years of battling breast cancer. Colinda was survived by her Father Angelo Gutierrez, Sister Teresa Hoffman, Husband Don Beers and Cat Rambler. She grew up in the Stockton area where she attended high School and graduated from Delta Junior College. Colinda first moved to Del Norte County in 1980 where she spent two years in the California Conservation Corps. After she finished her tour with the CCC she went to work as a seasonal employee for California State Parks. She eventually became a permanent employee with State Parks and then went to work for the California Department of Fish and Game. She spent the next twenty plus years working at the Mad River Fish Hatchery and the Salmon and Steelhead Research Facility in Arcata. During her time with State Parks and Fish and Game, Colinda developed many lifelong friends. Much of Colinda's life revolved around her love of the outdoors whether it was work or recreation. In addition to working in the field with State Parks and Fish and Game, she backpacked and camped frequently. Colinda was also an artist and her art was her true passion in life. She worked with pencil, water colors, stained and fused glass, and ceramics. Her subject matter was always the outdoors including landscapes, plants, and animals. Colinda was especially fond of sculpting fish which she worked with most of her career. She was a member of the Fire Arts Studio in Arcata where she spent much of later years working on her art projects and being with her friends. Fire Arts was a special place for her and she developed many close friends there. Colinda had breast cancer for nearly 14 years with the last five being stage four. During that time she never complained or felt sorry for herself. She maintained a positive outlook on life and inspired the people who knew her. In the end her spirit was strong but her body just gave out. She will be deeply missed by her family and all her friends. Please sign the guest book at www.Times-Standard.com, click obits.
