Dena Joan Berg Swartzlander Dena Joan Berg was born January 11, 1972 in Olympia, Washington. She passed on July 13, 2013 in Fields Landing. At the age of 6 months, Dena and her family moved to Camarillo, California. She attended school in Camarillo and Somis, Calif. Later, Dena lived in Utah, Colorado and moved to Eureka approximately fifteen years ago. Dena received her Associates of Arts at the College of the Redwoods. She also took online classes to become a paralegal professional. In addition, Dena worked as a waitress and bartender in Arcata and Eureka. She also worked for the Safeway Company doing creative merchandizing. During these years, Dena married Kent Swartzlander who worked as Fire Chief for the National Forest Service. Later Dena acquired her grandmother's (Helen Selvage) home in Fields Landing, which she thoroughly enjoyed remodeling. Dena also purchased property in Big Lagoon where she went to watch the sunsets and relax. Dena is survived by her father Donald Edward Berg; mother Susan Christine Berg; brother Damon Shawn Berg and his children Davin and Fiona. She also is survived by aunt Gigi Law and her children Ginny Lee Lipson and Derek Law; cousins Jack and Leslie Selvage and their children John and Jason, Jere Edwina Buck and their family Shawn and Wendy as well as cousin Monica Johnson. Dena also has many surviving cousins in the Midwest on the Berg side. Dena touched the hearts of many people in Humboldt County. She will be missed by all. Rest in peace Dearest Dena. We all love you. See you again in Heaven.
