George Edward Smith George Smith passed away on August 4, 2013 at the age of 95. George was born on September 9, 1917 in Oswego, New York. His parents were Ernest and Florine Smith. George was the oldest of six children. George was in the Army-Air Force from 1942 - 1945. He served in the Pacific during World War II. He married Laura Jean Ellis on August 21, 1946. George worked for many years as a civilian for the United State Air Force in both San Bernardino, California and Hill Air Force Base, Ogden, Utah. He lived most of his adult life in San Bernardino . He and Laura moved to Eureka in 1999. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 60 years Laura; his step-daughter Ruth Louise Harrison; his sisters Harriet Smith and Mildred Tonkin and his brother Robert Smith. George is survived by his daughter Karen Smith (Minor); son-in-law Phillip Minor; his brother Frederick Smith of Lady Lake, Florida and his sister Theresa Smith of Oswego, New York. George was a very caring, generous and loyal person. He was a man who was always there to help. He will be sorely missed. The family would like to express their very deep gratitude to George's hospice caregivers: Scott, Nick, Ann, Rafael and Chris; to the Humboldt/Pacific Caregivers, to individual caregivers Adelia and Anna Maciel and Nancy Julitz; and to Dance, Tenaya and Aurora Farrell who brought communion to George. Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, August 7, 2013 at 1:30 p.m. at Ocean View Cemetery with Father Eric Freed officiating. Arrangements are under the care of Sanders Funeral Home, Eureka.
