Daniel Edward Guy Daniel Edward "Ed" Guy passed away on November 23, 2013. Dad was born on November 15, 1932 in Foster, Alabama. The family moved to Orick when Dad was sixteen and he attended Arcata High School where he played on the varsity football team. He graduated in 1950. He met Nancy Marchi, the love of his life, and they were married at St. Bernard's Church on June 29, 1952. Dad worked for Simpson Timber Company for forty years, retiring in 1997. In 1965, he suffered a devastating injury working in the woods that left him a paraplegic. He never let that stop him from doing anything he wanted to do. He faced every challenge with courage and dignity and an unbelievable sense of humor. He was an inspiration to his family and everyone who knew him. He went back to work in the office for Simpson less than a year after his injury. While working full time, he earned his AA from College of the Redwoods. Many nights he would go from work in Blue Lake to CR for night classes, then come home at nine or ten o'clock and do homework and Mom would type his papers for him (they were quite a team)! He also took classes at HSU. The family enjoyed many wonderful summer vacations. One of his favorite vacation spots was Trinity Lake. Dad loved to drive the boat and swim in the lake and terrorize anyone who happened to swim near him! He was a huge Giants and 49ers fan. We went to many San Francisco Giants games over the years and he was fortunate to be able to see the Giants win two World Series. Dad was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Nancy, his parents, Monroe and Minnie Guy, and his brother, Walt. He is survived by his son, Dan (Ida) Guy; daughter, Laura (Bill) Matthias; daughter, Susan (Clint) Donaghue; and son, Mike (Carol) Guy; grandchildren Scott Guy, Travis Guy, Sarah (Rob) Acorn, Stacy (Jason) Pearce, Jacob Donaghue, Aaron Donaghue, Jared Guy and Megan Guy; and great grandchildren, Isabella Acorn and Sophia Acorn. He also leaves his friend and brother-in-law, Lawrence (Babe) Banducci and close friends, Jim and Joan Littlejohn. Dad, Mom, Babe and Londa (Mom's sister), and the Littlejohns enjoyed many wonderful times together and went on many memorable vacations. The family would like to sincerely thank Dr. Mark Pardoe for taking such good care of Dad over the years and treating Dad and Mom with such care and respect. A very special thanks from the family to Dad's caregiver, Lusi Vainuku. She took care of Dad and Mom with such love and devotion. She is truly an angel. A celebration of Dad's life will be held at the Eureka Elks Lodge on Saturday, January 11, 2014 at 1:00. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting contributions be made to Hospice of Humboldt or to a . Please sign the guestbook at www.times-standard.com and click on obits.
