After serving in the Army Neil returned to his home town of North Adams, Mass. He graduated from the University of Maine with a Bachelors degree in Business. He then attended USC and UCLA in Los Angeles, graduating with a Masters degree in Public Administration. Neil's career started as Assistant Manager for the City of Eureka, CA. He attended Humboldt State College where he obtained a Bachelors degree majoring in accounting. He became a CPA (passing the test on his first try) and worked for the accounting group Bean and Stanhope. In November 1973 he began his 29 year career as Auditor Controller for the County of Humboldt. He retired in December 2002 and at the age of 70 began a new career with his wife, Janet, operating their business, the Bayview Motel, in Eureka. In 2008, after his wife passed, he finally turned over the day to day operations to his son David and wife Pamela. During his employment with the City of Eureka he met the love of his life Janet Schneider. They were married August 1965 and shared 43 wonderful years together. Neil loved his family and enjoyed family gatherings where he told fun and spirited stories of his life adventures. He looked forward to attending the Humboldt County Fair horse races every August. He also enjoyed watching the Giants and 49ers ball games. Neil loved to joke around with co-workers, family members, friends, and everyone he came into contact with through the course of his day. Neil, aka "Pop", was deeply loved by all of his family and many close friends. He was a kind and caring person with a great sense of humor. He will be terribly missed.
