Clair Douglas Shore Obituary
Clair Douglas Shore was born March 1, 1928 and passed at age 86 on Good Friday, April 18, 2014. Clair was known as "Doug" most of his life and lived in Humboldt County all of his life, except for his Army service during the Korean War. Doug was a descendant of the Tsnungwe people from the New River and South Fork, Trinity County. He was a father, grandfather, great-grandfather and great-great grandfather who dearly loved, and was dearly loved by his family. Doug was a devoted father to his children, Kenneth Cork his wife, Cheryl and to Harriet Stockwell and her late-husband, Gary. Grandchildren include Gerry Stockwell and his wife, Charis, Rick Stockwell and his wife, Rhonda, Keri Cork Barnett and her husband, James and Kevin Cork and his wife, Rachael. He also had 11 great-grandchildren as well as 5 great-great- grandchildren. Doug had many friends and was a well-known and respected member of the communities of Willow Creek and Arcata. Doug attended elementary school in Willow Creek and high school in Hoopa, and was accepted to Humboldt State University at the age of 16. In 1950, he was drafted into the Army and served as a pharmacist/medic in Korea. After returning from Korea, Doug lived in Arcata and worked for Arcata Redwood until his retirement. He and his wife, Wanda moved to Willow Creek to live on the family ranch where he was raised. After his wife's passing, Doug was actively involved in S.C.O.P. around Willow Creek, serving as the training officer. He was an avid fisherman, hunter and outdoorsman. Doug was preceded in death by his wife Wanda, his parents Merton and Alice Shore; his brothers Curtis and John. A celebration of his life will be held on July 25, 2014 at the V.F.W.
