BERLIN - Donald Lester Morgan, 74, of Berlin, died unexpectedly Sunday, July 7, 2013, at the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, N.H. He was born in Montpelier on Jan. 23, 1939, the son of Ralph and Irma Morgan. He was a graduate of Montpelier High School, class of 1959.
He had been a member of the Vermont Army National Guard.
He married the "love of his life," Beverly Montgomery, on Oct. 11, 1986, in the United Methodist Church in Northfield.
As a young man growing up in Moretown, Don enjoyed working at his neighbors' farms, and he was an outdoorsman who loved to work the soil and connect with nature. Don had worked at Dion Motors of Barre, Rossi Buick of Berlin, Walker Motors of Montpelier and 18 years at Lyons Pontiac Cadillac in Berlin, as an automotive body technician. He later went to work for the Montpelier school system, as a custodian at their three area schools for the past 15 years.
He was a member of the Trinity Methodist Church in Montpelier, the Moose Club
, Capital City Grange and Central Vermont Squares Club. He enjoyed square dancing, hunting, fishing, watching the squirrels and birds in his backyard, loved his pet dogs and cat, and attending his grandchildren's sporting events.
Survivors include his loving wife, Beverly, of Berlin; six daughters, Christy Frates and her husband, Cliff, of Florida, Angela Brown and her fiance, Quinn, of Alaska, Karen Martin and her husband, Matt, of Barre, Jessica Nichols and her husband, Chris, of Virginia, Jocelyn Brown, of Florida, Melissa Sherman, of Barre; one sister, Eva Merchant, and her husband, Ken, of St. Johnsbury; seven grandchildren, Hunter and Sierra Martin, Logan and Isaac Nichols, Joshua Smith, Devin and Anson Sherman; and many nieces and nephews; he also leaves many dear friends, including special friends Dennis Maranville, Joe Bennett and Al Perkins.
He will be missed by all that knew and loved him.
There are no calling hours. A memorial service celebrating his life will be conducted Saturday, July 13, 2013, at 11 a.m. at the Kingston Funeral Home, 35 Slate Ave., Northfield.
