Barbara Davis Obituary

MORRISVILLE – Barbara Jane Davison Davis, 82, died peacefully at the home of her daughter, Laurie Callahan, on Jan. 30, 2010. She was born Oct. 12, 1927, in Burlington, the daughter of Max and Priscilla Salls Davison. She grew up on the family dairy farm, where the most important sideline was making maple syrup. Barb graduated from Peoples Academy in Morrisville and married Robert Percy Davis on July 13, 1946.

Barb and Bob lived in Morrisville, Bradford and eventually settled in Cabot where Bob was general manager of Cabot Creamery Co-op. They built the family home on Cabot Plains where they produced prize-winning maple syrup. Barbara took great pride and satisfaction in their maple sugar operations and was named a director of Vermont Maple Sugar Makers Association. Barb and Bob expanded their sugar operation by buying a neighboring farm and started a herd of registered Jersey cattle. Barbara played a major role in management and breeding of the herd. Barbara always worked hard but enjoyed spending time at their summer cottage on Caspian Lake. She loved to dance. After retiring they returned to Morrisville where they built a home.

Barbara is survived by her husband of 62 years, Robert "Bob" Davis; three children, Daniel Robert Davis and wife, Mary Jo, of Newark, Vt.; William Davison Davis and wife, Debbie, of Bloomfield, Mich.; Laurie Beth Davis Callahan and husband, Jack, of Montpelier, Vt.; three grandchildren, "Tad" Davis and his wife, Maura; Heather Gulla and her husband, Shawn; and Beth Ann Davis; and a great-granddaughter, Faye Davis. Also surviving Barbara are her four sisters, Betty Post of Lakewood, Colo., Pat McDonald of South Burlington, Vt., Rhoda Rochat of Exeter, N.H., and Mary Amanda Parker of Indiana, Pa..

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 6, at the Puffer United Methodist Church in Morrisville, with Rev. Pat Thompson officiating. Interment will be in the Spring in Pleasant View Cemetery.

Contributions in her memory may be made to the Proctor Maple Research Center, PO Box 233, Underhill Center, VT 05490; the Central Vermont Home Health & Hospice, 600 Granger Road, Barre, VT 05641, or to the Puffer United Methodist Church, PO Box 669, Morrisville, VT 05661.
