BERLIN - Clinton Adams Jr., formerly of Berlin, Vermont, passed away on July 9, 2018, at his home in Harrisonburg, Virginia.
He was born in Portsmouth, Virginia, at the naval base hospital on May 18, 1948, to Marion (Hopkins) and Clinton Adams Sr. As a child in a Navy family, Clinton attended schools in Virginia, Newfoundland and Maine before the family settled in Vermont. There, he graduated from Lyndon Institute and Lyndon State College.
In 1977, he married Shirley Brimblecombe. They became foster parents and cared for many children and teenagers over a period of many years. They later became caregivers for a community mental health organization. Clint and Shirley made their home in Berlin until moving to Virginia in 2016.
Clint worked at several jobs over his lifetime. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and was an avid gun collector in his early years. Being very family oriented, he dedicated much of his life to his caregiving roles with foster care and later, with disabled adults. He loved animals, and often had a dog at his feet and a cat in his lap.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley; daughters Kelly Anderson, of Orange, Vermont, and Jessica Adams, of Harrisonburg, Virginia; sister Cindy Adams Foster, of Montpelier; grandchildren: Kayla, Victoria, Christopher and Emily; and nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
A memorial service was held in Virginia on Aug. 4; a service will be held in Vermont this fall. Memorial contributions may be made to an animal welfare organization of one's choice.
