Emile Chatot Obituary

BARRE CITY - Emile Eugene "Mimi" Chatot, 98, of Colby Street, died Thursday Sept. 13, 2012, at the Woodridge Nursing Home in Berlin, where he had been a resident since 2004. His family was at his bedside.

Born May 20, 1914, in Barre City, he was the son of Auguste and Ernestine (Barthelet) Chatot. He attended Barre schools and graduated from Spaulding High School in 1932.

On Oct. 25, 1940, he married Wilhelmina S. Pease in Burlington. Following their marriage they always made their home in Barre City. She died in February of 1997.

Mimi had worked many years in the granite manufacturing industry, starting as a polisher at the former Jones Brothers Granite Company, followed by a long association with his brother, Jules, at the North Barre Granite Company, where he retired as plant manager.

He was a well-known garlic gardener and had been a prize-winning garlic grower at the Champlain Valley Fair, as well as an avid innovator, hunter and fisherman and card and cribbage player.

A U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, he was a photographer's mate and had served in the Asiatic-Pacific Theatre of operations.
Mimi was a life member and for many years was part of the color guard of the Barre American Legion Post #10 and Mackenzie-Webster VFW Post #790 also of Barre and had belonged to the Mutuo Inc. He also volunteered for many years at the Central Vermont Hospital in Berlin.

Survivors include two daughters; Carol Brown and her husband Gary, of Fort Myers, Fla. and Claire Bartecki and her husband, Wayne, of Atlanta, Ga. and two sons; Charles Chatot and his wife, Roberta, of Barre Town and Philip Chatot and his wife, Kathleen of Georgia; also ten grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents and infant son, Richard, he was predeceased by his wife Wilhelmina, his grandson "Chuck" Chatot and two sisters Marie Bottiggi and Francese McTigue and two brothers Jules and Paul Chatot.

Mimi's life will be honored and celebrated Tuesday, Sept. 18, 2012, at 11 a.m. in the Hooker and Whitcomb Funeral Home, 7 Academy St., Barre. There are no calling hours.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Patient Activity Fund, Woodridge Nursing Home, P.O. Box 550 Barre VT 05641.
