
HINSDALE - Floyd James Morton, 85, died unexpectedly Tuesday, Aug. 5, 2008, at Brattleboro Memorial Hospital, following a brief illness.
He was born in Plainfield on Nov. 15, 1922, the son of Carlton and Hazel (Sargent) Morton. He was raised and educated in Plainfield, graduating from Plainfield High School class of 1941.
He had been employed for 38 years at the former American Optical Co. in Brattleboro and had also worked at Winchester Machine Company in Hinsdale. In his earlier years he drove a truck for the granite quarries in Barre.
He was a member of the Church of Christ in Brattleboro.
He enjoyed candle pin bowling and was an avid New York Yankees and Boston Celtics fan.
On June 3, 1944, he was married to Geraldine Hayes, who survives.
Besides his wife of 64 years, he is survived by three sons, Bernard Hayes of Chittenden, Richard Morton of Keene, N.H., and Michael Morton of Brattleboro; two daughters, Linda Young of Brattleboro and Tamara Rabideau of Hinsdale.
Additionally, he leaves one sister, Mildred Holt of Barre; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by three brothers and three sisters.
Graveside committal services will be conducted Saturday at 10 a.m. in Meetinghouse Hill Cemetery.
