WASHINGTON - Gerald Steven Farnham, 60, of the Berlin Health and Rehabilitation Center and formerly of Doyle Road in Washington, died Thursday, Sept. 5, 2013, at the Central Vermont Medical Center in Berlin. His family was at his bedside.

Born Jan. 1, 1953, in Barre, he was the son of Allen and Laurette (Poulin) Farnham.

He attended Washington Elementary School and graduated from Spaulding High School in Barre in 1971.

On Aug. 20, 1977, Gerald married Sheila Ann Braman in the Chelsea United Church. They made their home in Washington.

Gerald and his brother Gary Farnham started their business, G & G Concrete Construction, in 1973. Gerald became sole owner in 1975 and ran the business until 1986.

In earlier years, he was a member of the Washington Snow Flyers and a member of the Chelsea Fish and Game Club, in which he was instrumental in the planning and building of the Trap House. He also coached for the Washington Babe Ruth team for a time.

Gerald enjoyed nature, being outdoors, boating, hunting, water skiing and sports, especially football. He also liked turkey hunting and had mastered vocal turkey calling. He enjoyed family gatherings and spending time with his family. Many times, he was the man behind the barbecue grill or the camera.

Survivors include his wife, Sheila Farnham, of Washington; his sons, Christopher Farnham and his wife, Maki, of Hamamatsu, Japan, and Kyle Farnham, of Washington; a granddaughter, Aya Mae Farnham; his siblings Corine Wadkins and her husband, James, of Earlsville, Md., Denis Farnham and his wife, Karen, of Washington, Judith Salvatori and her husband, Gino, of Barre, Debra Washburn and her husband, Jerry, of South Barre, Natalie Tarbox and her husband, Donald, of Barre, Vicky Lorden and her husband, Michael, of East Dennis, Mass., and Lisa Wilkin and her husband, Brian, of South Barre; a sister-in-law Sylvia Farnham, of Washington; a sister-in-law Marilyn Johnson and her husband, Frank, of East Barre; and brothers-in-law William Braman, Gary Braman and Arthur Braman, all of Chelsea; many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Besides his parents, his brother Gary Allen Farnham predeceased him.

A service of remembrance will be held Wednesday, Sept. 25, 2013, at 2 p.m. in the Washington Baptist Church. There are no calling hours.
