BARRE CITY - Harry Wallace Sanderson Jr., 72, of Grandview Avenue, passed away on March 21, 2018, at the Berlin Health and Rehabilitation Center in Berlin, Vermont.
Born on April 10, 1945, he was the son of Harry Sanderson Sr. and Mary Teresa (Dumas) Sanderson.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years of marriage, Shirley Sanderson, of Barre City; three daughters, Paula Harrison, of North Carolina, Donna Brown, of South Carolina, and Kelley Sanderson, of Barre; as well as five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
He served honorably in the United States Navy for over 30 years.
A Mass of Christian burial to honor and celebrate his life was held on Tuesday, May 15, 2018, at 11 a.m. in St. Monica Catholic Church in Barre.
The Rev. Peter O'Leary, pastor of the church, was the celebrant.
Crucifer Victor Badeau was altar server, read scriptures from the Old and New Testaments and led the prayer of the faithful.
Organist and vocalist, Rosemary Badeau, accompanied singers Ronald Routhier and Paul Plante in the hymns, "Amazing Grace," "Be Not Afraid," "Song of Farewell" and "Shepherd of Souls in Love Come Feed Us." Soloist Rosemary Badeau sang, "Ave Maria."
Father O'Leary read the gospel and delivered the homily.
Burial with full military honors followed the Mass, in the Vermont Veteran's Memorial Cemetery in Randolph Center, Vermont, with Father O'Leary reading the committal prayers. Military honors were accorded the deceased by the U.S. Navy Funeral Honors Team of White River Junction, Vermont. Volleys were fired and taps sounded by the American Legion, Post #9, of Randolph Center, Vermont. The American flag was folded and presented to his wife, Shirley Sanderson.
Arrangements were in the care of the Pruneau-Polli Funeral Home, 58 Summer St., Barre, Vermont.
