MONTPELIER - Johanna Luise Citrini, 84, of Main Street, Montpelier, died Oct. 2, 2008, at her home. She was born on Aug. 19, 1924, in Heidelberg, Germany, the daughter of Karl and Anna (Astor) Stelz.
Hanna was married to Oliver Guido Citrini. They met while Oliver was serving as a U.S. Army sergeant in Germany and were wed on Aug. 24, 1946, in Germany. She received her formal education in Germany in nursing, teaching and interior design. She continued her careers upon their return to the United States on Aug. 8, 1951. Hanna became a United States citizen on May 16, 1955. Hanna was a longtime interior designer in the Central Vermont area working for herself and being contracted by furniture and fabric stores. She also taught German and interior design at the adult education level.
Hanna is survived by her daughters, Renate Gagne and her husband Dennis of Antelope, Calif.; Louise Relation and her husband Stephen of Essex Junction; and Heidi Setien and her husband Steven of Barre; grandchildren Emily Duggins, Eleanor Surryhne, Sabrina Relation, Nicholas Relation; great-grandchildren Olivia Del Agostino, Morellia Del Agostino, Chloe Surryhne, Wyatt Surryhne, Alex Duggins and Amber Duggins. Also surviving are two sisters in Germany, Hedwig Schussler and Renate Dammer; and many nieces and nephews in Germany and Australia.
Hanna was predeceased by her husband on Jan. 3, 1982, five sisters and two brothers.
Calling hours will be held on Monday evening from 6 to 9 p.m. at Guare & Sons Funeral Home, 30 School St., Montpelier. A memorial service is planned for Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Guare & Sons Funeral Home. A private family burial will take place at Green Mount Cemetery.
