HARDWICK - Kenneth L. Robinson died Wednesday, July 25, 2012, at the age of 84, with his family at his bedside. He was born on May 15, 1928, in Norwalk, Conn., the son of Charles H. and Rose A. Robinson. He graduated, class of 1946, from Staples High School, Westport, Conn. Upon graduation, he enlisted in the Army and served as a military policeman in occupied Japan. He then went on to trade school to become a machinist. He was later deployed to France during the Korean War. He married Jean E. Worthy on May 16, 1953. They made their home in Connecticut where all five of their children were born and then in May 1971, they moved to Hardwick, Vt.

He was self-employed for many years in Ridgefield, Conn., as an excavator. He also was a skilled carpenter building several houses from the ground up, including three homes for his family and a camp in Norton. His last project was a detached garage at his Hardwick home in which he set up a small machine shop where he worked part time in his retirement. His other years of employment included working as a machinist at Avery Machine/Nystrom Technologies in Brattleboro and later at Rov Tech in Vernon.

His hobbies included deer hunting, rabbit hunting with beagles, listening to classical music, reading, watching sports on TV and spending time with family. He was a member of his high school band and an Army regiment marching band playing the trumpet.

He leaves his five children, Linda Snyder and her husband, Sam, of Hardwick, David Robinson, of Dover-Foxcroft, Maine, Nancy Dimick and her husband, Kelly, of East Hardwick, Kathy Granai and her husband, Matt, of Colchester, Ruthellen Doyon and her husband, Kip, of Walden; 10 grandchildren, Steven and his wife, Carol, Shane, Kris, Aaron, Scott, Daniel, Anthony, Michael, Ashlynn and Kevin; 10 great-grandchildren, Joseph, Kendra, Chelsea and her husband, Dallas, Eliza, Wyatt, Shyann, Launna, Latisha, Teresa and Makayla; and one great-great-granddaughter, Xandria. He also leaves one nephew, Donald Robinson, and several cousins. He was predeceased by his wife on Nov. 11, 2011, his parents, his brother, Seymour, and a grandson, Timmy.

Services will be held Saturday, July 28, at 1 p.m. at the des Groseilliers funeral home, Church Street, Hardwick. Interment immediately following with military honors in Fairview Cemetery, Hardwick. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations in his memory be made to the Hardwick Rescue Squad, PO Box 837, Hardwick, VT 05843.
