MONTPELIER - Phyllis E. Larose, 70, of Montpelier, Vermont, passed peacefully on Monday, Jan. 9, 2017, after a short, courageous battle with cancer, with her loving family and friends by her bedside at home.
Born Oct. 29, 1946, to Robert E. Mercier and Beatrice H. Mercier (Nourse) in Hardwick, Vermont, Phyllis grew up and attended schools in Hardwick and Morrisville, Vermont. At People's Academy, she was a basketball cheerleader. Her sophomore year, the family moved to Montpelier where she attended Montpelier High School. Little did she know this was where she would meet the love of her life, John Larose. John and Phyllis fell in love at the tender age of 16 and were married for 51 years.
Phyllis was employed in the claims department at Union Mutual for 30-plus years. Prior to that, she worked at National Life and State Equipment of Vermont.
Mom's outdoor enjoyments included gardening, berry picking and rides to camp in Norton, Vermont. Fishing was a passion where mom and dad spent many a day in the sun, rain or ice on Lake Memphremagog and Norton Pond. In addition to her love of nature and outdoors, some of her favorite adventures were trips to the casino and cruising with dad to different countries with Joyce and Eric Michael's tour groups.
Mom leaves behind as she would say, "My pride and joy, my family," husband, John Larose, of Montpelier, Lisa Rice and Tim Vincent, of East Montpelier, Michelle Larose and Angela Tremblay, of Berlin, Vermont, Jim and Teresa Larose, of Fairfax ,Vermont; her grandchildren, Amanda Rice, Meghan Rice, Colvin Rice, Connor Rice, Matthew Larose, Rebekah Larose, Marie Larose; and her extended family grandchildren, Ashley, Justin and Jared Vincent. She is also survived by her sister, Betty LeFort, of Webster, Massachusetts, and her two brothers, Richard Mercier, of Oxford, Massachusetts, and Ron Mercier and his wife, Julie, of Williamstown, Vermont.
Calling hours will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 15, at Guare and Sons Funeral Home, 30 School Street, Montpelier.
A memorial service will be held Monday, Jan. 16, 11 a.m. from the funeral home with a reception to follow at the Steak House.
In lieu of flowers, mom would want to have any contributions made to Central Vermont Home Health and Hospice Inc., 600 Granger Road, Barre, VT 05641 or at www.cvhhh.org.
