BARRE - Robert Murray Walker, 73, of Fairview Street, died Thursday night, March 21, 2013, at Central Vermont Medical Center in Berlin.

Born Aug. 17, 1939, in Barre, he was the son of Gerald R. and Mary (Murray) Walker. He attended Barre schools and graduated from Spaulding High School in 1957. He later attended Vermont Technical College in Randolph Center.
On Sept. 10, 1966, he married Gail J. Graham in Barre, where they had since resided.
Bob was a longtime employee as a civil technician in the right-of-way division of the state of Vermont Highway Department, especially in the formulation of the interstate highway system. He retired in 1997 because of his health, after more than 30 years of service.
He was a longtime baseball coach from Little League through the American Legion baseball program in the Barre area. Bob was an avid New York Yankees baseball fan and statistician for his children's various athletic teams and will be long remembered for his positive impact on Barre Youth Sports.
His memberships included the Barre American Legion Post 10 and the Barre Elks Lodge 1535.
Besides his wife, Gail, he leaves his daughter, Lori Muehlbauer, and her husband, Jeff, of Jefferson Hills, Pa.; and two sons, Steven Walker and his wife, Cheryl, of Cicero, N.Y., and J.R. Walker and his wife, Gigi, of Attleboro, Mass.; and six grandchildren, Jared and Jon Muehlbauer, and Madeline, Mia and twins Henry and Parra Walker; and several cousins, being predeceased by his parents.
His wife, children and grandchildren were the loves of his life.
Bob's funeral will be held Wednesday, March 27, 2013, at 11 a.m. in the Hooker and Whitcomb Funeral Home, 7 Academy St., Barre. Interment will be made in the Hope Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m.
