WEST STEWARTSTOWN, N.H. - Roland P. Burns, 80, died Sunday, Aug. 12, 2012, at Coös County Nursing Hospital in West Stewartstown.

He was born in West Stewartstown on Feb. 25, 1932, the son of Benjamin S. and Lena (Caron) Burns, and attended local schools.

He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean war.

For many years, he worked construction jobs in Vermont and New York. He was later employed as a custodian at Twinfield Union School in Marshfield, Vt., prior to retirement.

He enjoyed gardening and bird-watching.

Survivors include three children, Steven Burns, of North Carolina, Paul Burns, of Braintree, Vt., and Brenda Fonner, of Tempe, Ariz.; three siblings, Robert Burns and Hasen Burns, both of West Stewartstown, and Gladys Morrow, of Dover; seven grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by two siblings, Edna Michaud and Leroy Burns.

Calling hours will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 15, at the Jenkins & Newman Funeral Home in Colebrook.

The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 16, at Independent Baptist Church in West Stewartstown. Burial with military honors will follow in Pittsburg Hollow Cemetery.
