WILLIAMSTOWN - Sally Cassino Indelicato, age 105, resided at The Gardens in Williamstown, Vermont. Sally died peacefully surrounded by her loved ones at the palliative care unit of Central Vermont Medical Center on April 29, 2018.
Sally was born in Brooklyn, New York, as a first-generation American. Her family came to America from Sicily, Italy. Sally was the youngest of five children. Her maiden name was DeFiglia.
Sally grew up two doors away from her future husband, Frank A. Cassino, whose life work was in medicine and he practiced as a physician for his whole life. After the war, they settled in Queens, New York, where they raised their two children, Juliana Fechter and Peter Cassino.
After her husband's death in 1975, Sally moved to Florida to be near her cousins. She loved living there. When she was 98 years, she moved to Vermont to be near her children and grandchildren. She moved into The Gardens in Williamstown and loved her life there. She lived there for almost 10 years.
In summary, Sally had a real zest for life and her enthusiasm for life was often contagious. She often recounted loving working as a very young woman for the Literary Digest in the Empire State Building in New York City. She loved painting, decorating her beautiful home, traveling and enjoying the many parties she hosted for family and friends.
Last year, at a picnic at the Gardens, we watched Sally get up and dance to a lively rendition of the song, "Mustang Sally." There was clapping and singing while "Mustang Sally" moved with the exuberance of that wonderful spirit within her. Way to go, Mom!
Sally is survived by her two children, Peter Cassino, of Cambridge, Massachusetts, and her daughter, Juliana and her husband, Earl Fechter, of Montpelier, Vermont; her two grandchildren Earl Fechter and his wife, Kathy Fechter, of Montpelier, and their two children Earl Dominic Fechter and Lorenza L. Fechter (Sally's great-grandchildren), and Jason Fechter and his wife, Michele Fechter, of Plainfield, Vermont. She is survived by her many nieces and nephews whom she loved very, very much.
Sally was predeceased by her husband of 40 years, Dr. Frank A. Cassino; by her second husband of five years, Dr. Joe Indelicato; also by her sister and three brothers and their wives.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at noon on Saturday, May 19, at the St. Augustine's Catholic Church.
