NORTHFIELD - Muriel Pauline "Polly" Daniels Maloney, 94, passed away Thursday, March 20, 2014, at Mayo Healthcare in Northfield.

She was born Aug. 7, 1919, the daughter of Harry and Flossie (Ward) Daniels, of Northfield.

She married Harley "Joe" Maloney on Sept. 14, 1939, and they were together for 49 years, until his death in December 1988.

Polly leaves her loving family, which includes three daughters, Linda Wilson, of Springfield, Maureen Maloney, of Hooksett, N.H., and Mary Gage Maloney, of Northfield. In addition to her daughters, she leaves a son-in-law, Bruce Gage; her grandson Shane Wilson, of Barrington, N.H.; her granddaughter, Jennifer McCready, and her husband, Jay, of Dover, N.H.; grandson Ryan Gage, of Northfield; as well as four great-grandchildren, Dylan, Devin, Samuel Wilson and Jasmyn McCready; and two sisters, Josephine Aiken, of Charlestown, N.H., and Shirley Abbott, of Florida.

Polly was predeceased by three sisters, Teresa, Blanche and Dorothy; and four brothers, Kenneth, Charles, Floyd and Otis.

Polly and Joe owned and operated Maloney's Grocery Store in South Northfield for over 20 years. Polly also worked as a switchboard operator at Central Vermont Hospital, retiring in 1996.

Polly lived most of her life in South Northfield, except during World War II, when she worked for Pratt & Whitney in Hartford, Conn.

She was an active member of the Little White Church in South Northfield for 40 years, as well as a life member of the American Legion Women's Auxiliary in Northfield.

For the past four years, she has resided at Mayo Healthcare in Northfield.

A funeral service celebrating Polly's life will be held Saturday, May 17, 2014, at 11 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Northfield, followed by burial in the family plot in Mount Hope Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the Mayo Activity Fund, 71 Richardson Ave., Northfield, VT 05663. Kingston Funeral Home in Northfield is handling the arrangements.
