BARRE TOWN - Elizabeth K. 'Betty' Ibey, 82, of Cobble Hill Meadows, Barre Town, died at Central Vermont Medical Center from injuries resulting from an automobile accident on Saturday, July 5, 2014.

Betty was a lifelong resident of central Vermont. She was born and raised in Montpelier, the youngest of four children, to Wilmot (Bill) and Antoinette (Normandin) Kynoch. She attended St. Michael's Grade School and graduated from St. Michael's High School in the class of 1949.

Betty married Donald Ibey at St. Augustine's church in Montpelier in 1950. They were happily married for 64 years. They lived in Montpelier for many years where they raised their children. Betty worked for Capital City Gas Company, Vermont College, and 20 years for National Life Insurance Company in payroll and human resources until she retired.

Betty is survived by her husband, Donald, of Barre Town; daughter Gail Poitras and husband Clay, of Montpelier; sons Brian Ibey and wife Laura, of Barre Town, Barry Ibey and wife Charlene, of Plainfield, and Richard Ibey and wife Heidi, of Plainfield; nine grandchildren, one great-grandson, and nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her son, Michael Jay Ibey, brother L. Wilmot (Bill) Kynoch, and sisters Helen Hill and Marion Roya.

Betty was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, aunt and friend. She loved baking and always had fresh baked treats to offer visitors. She was an avid reader and enjoyed keeping her hands busy with needlepoint, knitting, puzzles, bowling and playing the organ and piano. She played beautifully, starting from an early age, and played the pipe organ in St. Augustine's Church for weddings and during weekly Mass while she was in high school. Her family and friends will cherish memories of a wonderful woman with a kind heart.

A funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m., Friday, July 11, in St. Monica's Church, Summer Street, Barre. Burial will follow the Mass at Plain-Mont Cemetery, East Montpelier. There are no calling hours.

The family wishes to thank the quick response and rescue efforts of the Barre emergency personnel, and the emergency room staff at Central Vermont Medical Center for their care and support.
