BARRE - St. Monica Catholic Church in Barre was filled to capacity at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 21, 2014, for the Mass of Christian burial for Maryse J. Flory, 48, of Waterman Street in Barre. She passed away on Aug. 16, 2014, at her home.

The concelebrated Mass was led by Monsignor Richard G. Lavalley, a close family friend and pastor of St. Francis Parish in Winooski, assisted by the Rev. Peter O'Leary, pastor of the church.

Crucifer Lawrence Reilly was altar server and led the Prayer of the Faithful.

Organist and vocalist Rosemary Badeau accompanied vocalists Romeo Bilodeau and Ronald Routhier in the hymns "Be Not Afraid," "One Bread, One Body," "On Eagles Wings," "Song of Farewell" and "Amazing Grace." Soloist Rosemary Badeau sang "Ave Maria." Special vocalist and guitarist Evan Grubb (a family friend) sang "You've Got a Friend" by James Taylor.

Words of remembrance, written by her husband, Al, were shared by Mark Gemmiti, brother-in-law.

The Old Testament reading was read by Hilary O'Callaghan, companion of nephew Jay Gemmiti, and Chad Joseph, nephew, read a Scripture from the New Testament.

Monsignor Lavalley proclaimed the Gospel and the homily.

Offertory gifts were presented at the altar by Kristen Seager and Katelyn Seager, both nieces, and Linda Aylward, a cousin. Roses were placed on her casket by Andrew Simonds, a nephew.

Monsignor Lavalley led a prayer service Thursday morning with the family at the Pruneau-Polli Funeral Home in Barre.

Pallbearers were Monica Gemmiti (niece), Jay Gemmiti, Brandon Gemmiti, Ross Jutras, Todd Joseph and Darby Simonds (all nephews).

In attendance was a large delegation of employees from the Northfield Savings Bank.

Burial followed the Mass at St. Sylvester Cemetery in Lower Websterville, where Monsignor Lavalley offered the committal prayers. Roses were placed on her casket by family members and friends. Following the burial, family and friends gathered at the Hilltop Restaurant on Quarry Hill Road for a time of fellowship and luncheon.

Arrangements were in the care of the Pruneau-Polli Funeral Home, 58 Summer St., Barre.
