WOODLAWN, Va. - John H. McLaughlin was born Aug. 9, 1926, and went home to be with the Lord on April 3, 2013, at Twin County Regional Hospital in Galax.

Born in Barre, Vt., to George and Cecelia McLaughlin, he was educated in Barre City Schools, served in the Air Force during the Korean War, and was a retired granite sawyer from Consolidated Memorial in 1989.
Mr. McLaughlin was a longtime member of the Church of God of Prophecy and was an ordained deacon.
A resident of Middlesex, Vt., for 48 years, he retired to Woodlawn, Va., where he and his wife have resided for the past 11 years.
"Jack" was an avid hunter and fisherman. He loved the outdoors, taking care of his lawn, and dearly loved his family.
He was preceded in death by brothers Harold, Joe, Guy, George and Paul McLaughlin and sisters Millie Howlett, Florence Marston and Medora Fox.
Surviving are his wife, Alice, of the home; son, George (Sandra), of Winston-Salem, N.C.; daughter, Mary (Rogers), of Woodlawn; sisters, Wilma Corte, of Barre, Vt., and Mona Booe, of Charlotte, N.C.; grandchildren, Erin and Alexandria McLaughlin, Wendy Rivera (Marty); great-grandchildren, Elizabeth, Joey and Brianna Rivera; and many nieces and nephews.
He will be greatly missed by family and friends.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 6, 2013, at Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel at 2 p.m. with Pastor Titus Anderson, Bishop Keith Russell and Bishop David F. Risch officiating. Military rites will be conducted by the Hillsville Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1115. Burial will be in Wilkinson Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday, April 5, 2013, at Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel from 6 to 8 p.m.
