WEST BROOKFIELD - Robert S. Small, 84, of West Brookfield, died Thursday, July 25, 2013, at his home.

He was born on Dec. 5, 1928 ,in Northport, Long Island, N.Y., the son of Eugene S. and Isabelle A. (Listen) Small. He served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II and the Korean War, and moved to West Brookfield in 1949.

He was married to Phyllis Moore in Randolph in 1953, and was a cattle inseminator for four years.  He also worked as a drafter at G.W. Plastics, then worked for Cone Automatic in Windsor.

Mr. Small worked for the Randolph Post Office for 15 years, and did refrigerator repair work in the Randolph area.

He was a member of the Randolph American Legion Post #9, the East Braintree/West Brookfield Congregational Church and the Roxbury Congregational Church. He was a lay pastor for the East Braintree church and enjoyed singing in church.

Survivors include his wife Phyllis Small of West Brookfield; sons, Robert M. Small of Jasper, Ga., Gary M. Small of Newport Center, and Richard W. Small of Brookfield; daughters, Theresa Whitney of Salisbury, Patricia Small of Randolph, and Peggy Eaccarino of West Brookfield; brother, James H. Small of Long Island, N.Y.; sister, Paige Code of Brooksville, Fla.; 21 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his brothers, Marshall, Edward, and Sanford Small, and by sisters, Regina Casper and Virginia Small.

Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 4, at the Roxbury Congregational Church, with the Rev. Sue Church, pastor, officiating.

There are no calling hours. 

Private burial will be at the convenience of the family at West Brookfield Cemetery. 

Contributions in his memory may be made to the Roxbury Congregational Church or to the East Braintree Congregational Church.
