MONTPELIER - Claudette L. Marinelli, 78, died on Saturday, February 8, 2014, at her home, in the company of her loving family.

She was born on December 26, 1935, the daughter of Albert and Fleurette Trahan, in Southbridge, Mass.

On February 9, 1957, she married Ronald J. Marinelli at the Notre Dame Church in Southbridge, Mass., and moved to Montpelier, Vt., in 1965.

Claudette joined the state of Vermont legislative council staff in 1966 and during her 36-year tenure, performed and managed all its operations, serving all members and all committees of both chambers of the Legislature. She innovated and initiated new services and technology to facilitate legislative drafting, communications and administrative support for the General Assembly in ways never envisioned in 1966. Her presence was a welcome and friendly support to hundreds of Vermont legislators. Claudette retired from the Legislative Council on December 31, 2002.

Claudette enjoyed traveling with her husband, family trips to Pine Point, Maine, time spent with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, cooking at home and the supportive community of friends at Westview Meadows and The Gary Home. She was a member of St. Augustine's Church and the past president of the Montpelier Emblem Club.

She is survived by her two daughters, Lisa Maxfield and her husband, Steve Maxfield, of Barre, Vt., and their daughter, Ariel Duquette of Marshfield, Vt., Beth Smith and her husband, Ted Smith, of Georgia, Vt., and their daughter, Laura Swanson of Candia, N.H.; her three sons, Michael Marinelli and his wife, Elise, of Montpelier and their children, Andrew Marinelli of Kapolei, Hawaii, Jeff Bousquet of Worcester, Vt., and Joe Bousquet of Chicago, Ill., Kevin Marinelli and his wife, MartieAnne, and their children, Ava and Caelen, of Needham, Mass., and Steven Marinelli and his wife, Nancy, of Georgia, Vt., and their children, Alex Marinelli of Plymouth, N.H., and Nick Marinelli, currently serving in the United States Air Force in England.

She is also survived by her sisters, Joan Marinelli and Johanne MacDonald; and her great-grandchildren, Braydan Bousquet and Julie and Dennis Swanson.

She was predeceased by her husband, Ronald Marinelli, in 2012; her parents, Albert and Fleurette Trahan; her brother, Frank Trahan; and her grandson, Scott Smith.

Per request of the family, there will be no calling hours. The family invites you to attend a funeral Mass to be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Thursday, February 13, at St. Augustine's Church in Montpelier, Vt. Interment will follow in Green Mount Cemetery after the Mass and memorial reception.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in her honor to Central Vermont Home Health & Hospice, 600 Granger Road, Barre, VT 05641.
