BARRE TOWN - Maurice Chaloux, 93, of Morrison Road, passed away Tuesday, February 16, 2016, at the University of Vermont Health Network Central Vermont Medical Center, surrounded by his family, after a brief illness.

Born in Sainte Edwidge, Quebec, Canada, on August 15, 1922, he was the son of the late Hector and Florida (Sylvain) Chaloux. In 1946, his family moved to the Knox Mountain Farm in Corinth, Vermont, where the family owned and operated the farm and timber business.

On September 10, 1946, he married Germaine (St. Pierre) Chaloux in the Ste. Jean the Baptise Catholic Church in Coaticook, Quebec, Canada. Shortly after their marriage, she joined him on his family farm. In 1947, the couple moved to Barre where they resided for four years. In 1951, they moved to Barre Town where they made their home on Morrison Road.

Maurice dedicated his life to his wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He enjoyed gardening and cutting firewood. His large and abundant vegetable garden, that he planted year after year, proved he had mastered his expertise in gardening. Many of his family, friends and neighbors enjoyed his wonderful vegetables.

Maurice worked on the family farm and timber business for two years after moving to Vermont. He then joined the workforce in the granite industry in Barre, where he worked the majority of his life until his retirement. He had taken a few years to work with his brothers at a sawmill they owned.

Maurice was predeceased by his wife, Germaine.
