Adele Lenehan

Adele Lynn (Challberg) Lenehan went to heaven to be with Jesus on December 22nd, 2012, after a sudden recurrence of breast cancer. Adele was born on January 3, 1948, in Minneapolis, Minnesota. She was the very active first child of Theodore and Marcella Challberg. She attended public schools in Baltimore, MD, and Little Falls, NJ, then earned a Bachelor's degree in mathematics at HoughtonCollege, Houghton, NY. Adele loved to memorize Bible verses, participating in a memorization program from elementary school through college. God's word was a vital part of her life. In 1969, Adele married her college sweetheart Bob Lenehan. The newlyweds moved to Colorado from western New York that summer so that Bob could attend graduate school at the University of Colorado. A job for Bob at IBM and the birth of their son Keith in 1970 kept the new family anchored in Colorado, where a love for God's created world and growing friendships at Calvary Church established Longmont as their home. The attachment to Colorado grew stronger with the birth of daughter Kristin in 1973. Adele loved sacred and classical music. She played the piano and flute until her Type 1 diabetes no longer allowed her fingers to work adequately on the instruments. Adele used her voice for the glory of God in several choirs, including the Longmont Chorale and the Calvary Church choir. While living in England in 1990-1991, she and Bob sang in a local Choral Society. Adele sewed avidly and was disappointed when she was unable to make clothes for her grandchildren and their dolls. One lifelong pleasure was the enjoyment of long walks with Bob. Her adventurous spirit prompted trips to most national parks in the USA and to many locations in Europe. Adele wondered out loud if she would live long enough to see any grandkids. God showed his sense of humor by providing eight of them! Keith Lenehan and wife Theresa of Brighton are the parents of Emily (12), Joseph (10), Anna (8), and Rebecca (3). Kristin Del Cid and husband Alex of Longmont are the parents of Micaela (10), Aubrianne (8), Maicah (7), and Mattias (4). Adele loved all of them. It was a special joy to her to share experiences with them, including yearly visits to see farm animals at the National Western Stock Show and afternoons at nearby Sunset Swimming Pool. Calvary Church provided many opportunities for Adele's service to God and the community. Most recently she worked faithfully with food distribution through Community FoodShare at Calvary. She enjoyed children and previously taught kids in Sunday School, Bible Study Fellowship, and the MOPS program. Adele is survived by her husband, her children and grandchildren, and her sister Darlene Challberg in New York City. A memorial service celebrating Adele's life will be held at Calvary Church, 2101 Gay Street, Longmont, at 10 AM on Thursday, December 27th. The family requests that contributions be made in Adele's name to the Calvary Church Memorial Fund, in lieu of flowers. Visit to share condolences.
