Daniel Dale Pineda of Longmont, CO died on Monday, January 6, 2014 at age 67 at his home surrounded by his family.
Dan was born to Toribio and Mary Pineda on June 6, 1946 in Rainesville, NM. He was married in Fort Bragg, NC, home of the 82nd Airborn Division, to Virginia Lucy Pineda. They were married 49 wonderful years. He was a 22 year veteran of the United States Army having served in Vietnam, Panama, Guam, Dominican Republic, Germany and several locations across the United States. Dan served two tours during the Vietnam war 64'-65' and 71'-72' for which he was awarded the Military Order of the Purple Heart for wounds received in combat. In 1975 his unit participated in the evacuation of refugees from Vietnam to Guam when Saigon fell. Among various duties, he coached U.S. Army basketball teams for 17 years, was a member of the military police, U.S. Army recruiter and morale support activities director. As a life member of the Military Order of the Purple Heart chapter 434, he was the proud recipient of the 2013 Patriot of the Year Award. Dan was a life member of American Legion Post 32 in Longmont, CO. He was also a life member of the A.F. & A.M at St. Vrain Lodge No. 23 in Longmont, CO and Oregon Military lodge No. 223 in Sherwood, OR.
Dan is survived his wife Lucy, son, Doug Pineda, wife Amy Pineda and children Brooke and KJ and son, Russ Pineda, wife Madra Pineda and children Nick and Jack. Also survived by brothers Jose Pineda, Ted (Toribio) Pineda and Alfred Pineda and sisters Irene Martinez and Roseanna Vigil.

A visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., on Friday January 10, 2014, followed by a Recitation of the Rosary at 7:00 p.m., both at St. Francis of Assisi in Longmont. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday January 11, 2014 at St. Francis of Assisi with Reverend Frank Maroney officiating.
An inurnment will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday January 15, 2014 at Ft. Logan National Cemetery in Denver, Colorado, with full military honors rendered.
