Howard Alden McClellan of Longmont died Thursday, April 10, 2014, at Longmont United Hospital from a bone marrow and pulmonary disorder. Howard was 72. He was born in Burbank, California, on August 1, 1941, to Alden Chappell and Helen Theresa McClellan. He attended Herbert Hoover High School in Glendale, California. Following high school, he attended Oregon State University, graduating with degrees in Animal Science, and Business. Howard was very active throughout his life with his fraternity, Kappa Delta Rho.
Howard married Sandra Byrd Campbell on May 15, 1976 in Pasadena, California. In 1979 they moved to Colorado to pursue life on a farm in Longmont. Sande preceded Howard in death in 2001 due to complications following an auto accident. Howard missed her so very much.
In California, Howard worked at Elect Air Tool - a company that specialized in hydraulic and pneumatic tools for aerospace and manufacturing. Howard's businesses in Longmont included Summit Fencing, offering high quality specialized fencing solutions; Ostriches at the Summit; and Summit Photographic. As a professional photographer he captured horse shows, livestock portraits, 4 H events, formal and casual portraits. His love of photography continues to enrich his family and friends with wonderful memories.
Sande and Howard enjoyed travel, camping, any adventure in the United States. Howard continued to travel extensively to Scotland, Ireland, England, Spain, Germany, Austria, France and Italy. He often tried to time his trips to take advantage of the Formula 1 races in France and Italy.
Howard had MANY hobbies and interests - most of his hobbies began while growing up in Southern California - remote controlled planes and cars, hunting and target shooting, fishing, archery, cars and car shows.
Howard's parents, Helen and Alden McClellan, preceded him in death in 1996.
Howard is survived by his sister, Susan McClellan Baribault, niece Maryann Baribault Zeira and nephew Paul Baribault of California; foster daughter, Sherry Clint Simpson of Rockford, Illinois and her children, Trevor, Paige and Chandler; step-children Mark Campbell and his children Tony, Jesse and Tonya of Firestone; Lisa Campbell Luongo of West Hollywood, California, and her children Christian and Olivia; Candice Campbell Allnutt of San Diego, California, and her children Alesandro and Santoro.
The Celebration of Howard's Life is at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 10, at Longmont Church of Christ, 1351 Collyer Street, Longmont. A reception will follow at the church. Arrangements entrusted to Carroll-Lewellen Funeral & Cremation Services.
