Jacob Smith

Jacob "Jake" Smith, 76, of Longmont passed away May 5, 2013 at Poudre Valley Hospital in Ft. Collins, CO. He was born September 25, 1936 in Longmont, Colorado to George and Mary (Kraupp) Smith. Jake graduated from Mead High School in 1954, and he served in the US Marine Corp from 1956 to 1959. He worked for Public Service from 1959 until 1993, retiring after 34 years. He was of the Catholic Faith. Jake's first love was his family and his passion was fishing. Jake was an avid fisherman and loved Lake McConaughy. He shared many family moments at the lake. Jake and Dort moved to Lake McConaughy in 1994, where Jake was able to have his beautiful garden and yard that kept him outside where he loved life. Jake also adored his family pets and especially he loved his Chessy. Jake and Dort moved back to Longmont in 2004 to be closer to their grandchildren and family and friends. Jake was still able to enjoy his time outside with his garden and yard. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother George Smith, two sisters Mary Lou Smith and Susie Ayers. Jake is survived by his wife Dorothy of Longmont, two sons Chris Smith and wife Robin and Clay Smith both of Thornton, CO, four brothers; Roy Smith and wife Anna, Dick Smith, Leonard Smith and wife Donna, and Virgil Smith, five grandchildren; Austin, Zach, Jordin, Trenton, and Stevie Rae. A Celebration of Life Gathering will be held from 3 PM to 5 PM Saturday May 11, 2013 at Ahlberg Funeral Chapel. Military Honors will be rendered at 3:30 PM as part of the Celebration Gathering. Cremation at Ahlberg Funeral Chapel and Crematory, private inurnment at a later time at Foothills Gardens of Memory Cemetery.
