James Dole

James Gordon Dole, 83, a retired Chief Petty Officer in the United States Navy, of Eaton, formerly of Longmont, died March 13, 2014 at the Windsor Health Care Center, Windsor, CO. He was born on July 6, 1930 in Harvey, Illinois to John Fletcher Dole and Ruth Lillian Stevenson Dole and was raised in Boulder, CO. Upon completion of his college education, Jim enlisted in the United States Navy. Jim married Dorothy "Sue" Howard on June 8, 1962 at the Military Chapel of the Naval Training Center in Millington, TN. Following his retirement from the Navy in 1970 he and Sue and his girls moved to Longmont and Jim began his teaching career at the Boulder Valley Vo-Tech. In the early 1980's Jim was hired away from teaching to his third career as the national sales manager for Colo Video in Boulder. After their respective retirements, he and Sue moved to Eaton in 2000. His retirement allowed him to have time to enjoy golf, fishing, travel and time with family and friends. Jim was a wonderful loving husband and father, an outstanding and dedicated teacher and a proud Navy Chief and Korean War veteran. Survivors include his wife Sue of Eaton, his daughters Linda Dole (Richard Stevens) of Loveland, CO, Catherine Pedigo (Alan) of Columbia, TN and Elizabeth Dole-Izzo (Christopher) of Laramie, WY. and 5 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Robert Dole and his grandson Nicholas Crosby. Cremation has been entrusted to Howe Mortuary and Cremation Services. Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 20, 2014 at First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Longmont, with Pastor Steve Berke officiating.
