James Rieger

James "Jim" Melvin Rieger of Longmont passed away on February 24, 2013. He was 73. He was born on June 15, 1939 in Elmhurst, IL to Frieda (Specht) and Ralph Rieger. He served in the United States Navy from 1958 to 1962. He retired in June of 1993 from the Southern California Pipe Trade. Happily living and loving beautiful Colorado with his wife Janice (Hammans) Rieger. He spent most of his time enjoying family, friendships with neighbors and involving himself with many woodworking and handyman projects. He will be fondly remembered for his knowledge and willingness to help wherever needed. Once people learned of his handyman skills he was called upon often and never refused assistance. Jim had an easy laugh that warmed the hearts of family and friends alike. He is preceded in death by his parents and a brother Robert Rieger. Survivors include his wife Janice Rieger of Longmont, his daughters Debra Rieger of Hemet, CA, Susan Rieger and Kathleen Rieger of Arvada, CO, Cathleen Bashor of Longmont, CO and Cindi (Bob) Burch of Longmont, CO. He is further survived by his brother John (Mary F. Platter) Rieger of San Diego, CA and his grandchildren Rebecca Bartholic, Jacob Saige, Travis (Emily) Bashor, Seth Burch, Bobby Burch and Cole Burch. Also surviving are his great grandchildren Jonas Flores, Hunter Gibson and Ryley Bashor and his nieces and nephews Shannon Rieger, Christy Rieger, Ralph Rieger and Leah Rieger. At his request his body has been donated to the University of Colorado School of Medicine for medical science and education. No memorial services will be held.
