LaVonne McIntosh

LaVonne "Vonnie" McIntosh, 84, of Longmont passed away April 29, 2014 at Life Care Center, Longmont, CO. She was born in Lodi, California to Edward and Caroline Walter. Vonnie graduated from Lodi Union High School in 1948 and married Robert Phelps McIntosh at the Ebenezer Congregational Church in Lodi, California in 1950. Vonnie worked at Walter's Market, a family-owned business dating back to her grandfather. She enjoyed working in the store with her parents and her pleasant personality was a natural fit for the grocery business. In the early 1950's Vonnie spent time as a secretary at Ft. Gordon, GA where her husband Bob was stationed in the Army. While at Ft. Gordon, Vonnie's skill at playing ping pong was highlighted by her many victories against the servicemen. Bob and Vonnie returned to California where they started a family; Vonnie was a devoted wife, mother and homemaker. After raising the children Vonnie accepted a part-time sales position at Hustons Gift Shop. Vonnie and Bob relocated to Longmont, Colorado in 1982 and spent the rest of their years in beautiful Colorado. She enjoyed collecting Hummel figurines, knitting argyle socks, watching movies and attending theater, reading (biographies and autobiographies) as well as volunteering for various activities. Vonnie had a love for music, played the piano, sang in the church choir and sang in a trio for many years. Vonnie enjoyed researching family history/genealogy and was a member of The Humane Society of The United States. Vonnie was preceded in death by her husband Robert in 2008 after 57 years of marriage. She is survived by four children: Susan McIntosh (fiancé Greg Beeler), Carol Sorensen (Rob), Debra Schubert (Rich), and Robert McIntosh, Jr. (Stephanie), five grandchildren: Tricia Svacina (Eric), Jeff Schubert (Heidi), Dr. Lisa Ferguson (Bryan), Scott Schubert (Carina), Samantha McIntosh, and four great grandchildren.
