Jerry "Mert" Janssen, 71, of Boulder died September 16, 2013 at the TRU Community Care Hospice care center in Louisville. Mert was born July 12, 1942 in Boulder to Milton and Zora (Smith) Janssen. He attended Boulder High graduating in 1960. He went to work for NCAR hauling weather related equipment all over the United States. He later worked for Wagner Equipment moving all kinds of Caterpillar equipment. He worked there for 22 years. Being the type of guy that couldn't sit around, Mert started CGL Pilot Car and Hot Shot. Mert had the knowledge and sense it took to do the job he loved. The deeper the snow, the colder the weather, the heavier the load, the more he enjoyed it. "Dirty Mert" as his friends knew him, was a diamond in the rough. He became a Father to those that really needed one, but more than anything Mert was the glue that seemed to hold everything together. He enjoyed fishing, farming, cutting wood, and most of all he loved his kids and his family. He is survived by his wife Kris of Boulder, son Clint (Pam) Janssen of Lakewood, daughters Gina (Larry) Baker of Frederick, Heidi Dawe of Mead, Tiffany (Terald Kling) Dawe of Firestone, and Toni Dawe of Lafayette. His brothers Darrell (Marie) Wright of Arizona, Bob (Joann) Coatsworth of Longmont, Tony (Kathy) Janssen of Rulison, CO, and David (Anne) Janssen. He is further survived by eleven grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers, Gary Coatsworth and Bud Janssen. A memorial Service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday September 21, 2013 at Rocky Mountain Christian Church in Niwot with Pastor Cris Crisfeld officiating. In lieu of flowers please make donations in Mert's name to the Foothills United Way "Foothills Flood Relief Fund" c/o Howe Mortuary to help victims of the recent floods in Boulder County.
