Rose Hanke

Rose Elaine Hanke passed away on Thursday, February 20, 2014. She was 67. Rose was born September 25, 1946 in Englewood, Colorado to Henry and Genevieve (Bailey) Heiny. When Rose was just 8 months old, both of her parents were killed in a car accident. Rose and her brother, Eddie and her sister, Carolyn were subsequently raised by their maternal grandparents George and Genevieve Bailey. Growing up, Rose was actively involved with the First Christian Church of Englewood as a Job's Daughter and a member of the Christian Choralaires. She also volunteered as a candy striper at Swedish Medical Center and Porter Hospital. In 1964, Rose met Barry Hanke, and they wed on May 21, 1966. They moved from Conifer to rural Longmont in 1971 where they raised their 2 children, Brandon and Genine. Rose was proud to work at the McDonalds at I-25 and Hwy 119 for eleven and a half years. In the early 90's, Rose was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. Rose loved to draw, sketch and do oil paintings. She was a talented seamstress and belonged to the Longmont Sewing Guild. She had a knack for creating special one-of-a-kind birthday cakes for her loved ones. Teaching for Vacation Bible School at the First Christian Church in Longmont was something she truly enjoyed. Rose participated in bowling leagues for many years. She also enjoyed swimming at the YMCA as part of the MS Aquatics Therapy Group. Rose is preceded in death by her parents and grandparents, and her father-in-law, William Hanke. She is survived by her husband, Barry and son, Brandon (both of Longmont) and her daughter, Genine (of Denver) as well as her sister, Carolyn Lee and Carolyn's husband Mark, and her brother, Ed Heiny (all of Englewood), Uncle William Bailey and his wife Tomie (of Northglenn) and Aunt Geniece Davis (of St. Louis, Missouri), her mother-in-law Mary Louise Hanke (of Delta), as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. Visitation 5-7pm, Wednesday, February 26, 2014 at Ahlberg Funeral Chapel, 326 Terry St. in Longmont. Memorial services will be held at 10am on Thursday, February 27, 2014 at Ahlberg Funeral Chapel followed by interment at Longmont Mountain View Cemetery.
