Roy Morris

Roy E. Morris, Jr., was born December 5, 1923 in Richmond, Virginia to Roy and Emma Morris. He was the eldest of three boys, Roy, Ron, and Paul. Roy enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1941 and served during WWII in the Pacific theater. He was an aerial combat photographer, and helped to photograph potential enemy landing sites, as well as training pilots by filming their bombing passes and the results. After the war ended, he served as a photo lab supervisor in San Francisco, and was honorably discharged in 1947. Roy received his Juris Doctorate in law from the University of Colorado in 1951, the same year he accepted a position with Gulf Oil Corporation in Oklahoma City. He married Nancy Paget in 1955, and honeymooned in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. He and Nancy had three boys, Michael, Steven, and Kevin. Roy moved the family to Luanda, Angola in 1967 where he served as site manager for the Cabinda oil production site. They returned to the U.S. and moved briefly to Jackson, Mississippi before settling in Boulder, Colorado in 1971. Roy retired from Gulf Oil Corporation in 1984. He went on to teach Land Management Law at the University of Colorado from 1986 - 1992, and ran a consulting business for oil and gas legal issues. He retired permanently in 2007. Roy was an avid traveler, and enjoyed frequent trips to Europe. He was a kind and gentle man, a true intellectual, and a beloved husband and father. He fought courageously to stay with his family till the end. Roy passed away March 19 in the presence of his family and friends. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Nancy, his sons Michael and Steven, and their respective families.
