Dougherty, Royal Verne, 92, passed away October 17, 2012. He was born December 4, 1919 in Fort Collins, CO to Charles and Ina (Wood) Dougherty the youngest of 10 children. He married Eileen Rohret on December 4, 1941. Early in their marriage they lived in Sun Valley, Idaho performing in numerous ice skating shows and meeting stars and celebrities of the time including Ernest Hemingway and Cary Grant. With the onset of WWII
he enlisted in the army
and served in the anti-aircraft division for 3 ½ years. Living in Boulder after the war, Verne worked as a carpenter and contractor. He built dozens of homes across the Front Range winning numerous design awards from the Board of Realtors. He and his wife moved to Longmont in 1988. He enjoyed playing golf having developed a love for the game at a very young age and lettering in the sport at Boulder High School as a member of its first graduating class in 1938. He was able to play golf well into his 90s and will be missed by his friends at his favorite course, Twin Peaks Golf Course in Longmont. Verne was preceded in death by his beloved wife Eileen in 2004, his daughter Karren Anselmi in 2006 and all of his siblings. He is survived by his son, David Dougherty and his wife, Mary; son-in-law, Phil Anselmi; four grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. A private memorial service will be held at a later date. Cremation entrusted to Carroll-Lewellen Funeral & Cremation Services.
