Salvatore "Sam" Campagna of Longmont died June 21, 2014 at Boulder Manor. He was 92 years old. He was born November 14, 1921 in Buffalo, N.Y. to Joseph and Jennie (Miosi) Campagna. Sam graduated from Buffalo Technical High School in 1940 and attended the Art Institute of Chicago for two years 1940-1942. Sam answered the call to duty on July 7, 1942, serving in the United States Army Corps of Engineers. He was honorably discharged with the rank of Sergeant on September 25, 1945. On September 1, 1947 he married Assunta Sue Rizzo in Buffalo, N.Y. Sam's career as an design draftsman and technical illustrator spanned over three decades. He retired in 1991 at the age of 70. Sam and Sue moved to Longmont, CO in 2003 from Buffalo. In Longmont he was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. Previously in Buffalo Sam was a member of St. Leo the Great Catholic Church in Amherst, N.Y., where he was active in St. Leo's Holy Name Society and St. Leo's Young at Heart. He was also a member of the American Legion in Buffalo. Sam enjoyed many artistic endeavors and photography. He received recognition as a watercolor artist. He was preceded in death by his parents and 5 siblings. Sam is survived by his wife Sue of Longmont, two daughters Mary Jane Mees (John) of Longmont and Sue Ann Gleason (John) of Vienna, VA, four grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held 10:30am Friday, June 27, 2014 at Ahlberg Funeral Chapel. Interment at Longmont Mountain View Cemetery with military honors by the US Army and American Legion Post 32.
