Daniel Blake Obituary
Daniel S. Blake of Longmont died September 5, 2013 at the age of 89. He was born in Orchard, CO on September 16, 1923 to Willis and Edith Blake. He lived in Colorado his whole life except when he served in the Navy during WWII. He returned to his home in Steamboat Springs to marry Roxy Ella Gray on June 10, 1947. In 1955, they settled in Longmont where he was employed by the Times-Call and later at the City of Longmont where he retired. He was an avid gardener growing prized tomatoes and corn of which he shared with family, neighbors and friends. He also was an inventor, a story-teller and fisherman. He restored several sports cars mostly Triumphs. Appropriately, his last meal was a bowl of ice cream. He is survived by a son, Dan Blake (Jill) of Erie; a daughter, Diane Colby (Craig) of Eagle; two granddaughters, Megan Colby of Durango and Alison Colby of Avon; and a grandson, Austin Corbin of Durango. He is preceded in death by his wife, parents, and two sisters. His ashes will be scattered at the same location as his wife's in the mountains they both loved. A private ceremony for the immediate family will be held at a later date. Visit www.ahlbergfuneralchapel.com to share condolences.
