Eugene McNeal Obituary
Eugene P. 'Skip" McNeal died March 10, 2014 at his home in Loveland. He was 66 years old. He was born August 3, 1947 in Altoona, PA to William A. and Gwendolyn M. (Hollobaugh) McNeal. Skip moved with his family to Longmont in 1957 and graduated from Longmont High School class of 1965. Skip enlisted in the United States Army on January 17, 1967. He served two tours of duty in Vietnam with the 101 st airborne division. He earned several medals, including a Bronze Star. He was honorably discharged on October 31, 1969. In 1972 he rejoined the Army, serving until 1974. Skip yet again answered the call of his Nation in 1979 returning for a third enlistment in the Army. One of his many duty stations was with the peace keeping forces in South Korea and the first Gulf War. He retired a Staff Sergeant in 1992. On September 8, 1970 he married Bonnie M. Backowies. They later divorced. He was a member of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Moose Lodge. Skip enjoyed hunting, fishing and playing card games. He was a huge fan of Pittsburgh (PA) sports teams. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters Anna Havel and Debra Jordan. Skip is survived by his daughter Tracy Black of Henderson, Texas, grandsons Joshua Alan Cooper and Lance Eugene Black, brother Bill (Peggy) McNeal of Berthoud, and sister Donna (Dennis) West of Loveland. To celebrate Skip's life a memorial gathering will be held Sunday, March 16, 2014 from 3:00 to 5:00pm; with a time for sharing memories and stories to begin at 3:50pm, at his home, 2881 Sally Ann Drive, Loveland. Cremation is entrusted to Ahlberg Funeral Chapel and Crematory. He will be laid to rest with Military Honors at Fort Logan National Cemetery.
