Jacqueline O'Donnell Obituary
Jacqueline Mae O'Donnell, age eighty-nine, passed away at her home in Longmont, Colorado on August 4, 2014. Jackie, as she was known to family and friends, was born in Lincoln, Nebraska to Earl and Clara (Engelhart) Haas on June 16, 1925. She graduated, with honors, from Lincoln Northeast High School in 1943. She found employment with the University of Nebraska College of Agriculture Extension office as a Secretary/Typist for six and half years. Jackie married Robert Gene O'Donnell on February 19, 1949. They were married for sixty-one years. Husband Gene worked as an Otoe County Extension Agent and was assigned to Syracuse, Nebraska for several years. They later were transferred to Ainsworth, Nebraska for fourteen years. They retired to Longmont, Colorado in the state's centennial year of 1976. Survivors include son, Michael and his wife Cindy; son, Todd and his wife Cathy and one grandchild, Ryleigh Lynne O'Donnell, whom she adored; all of Longmont. Family, her faith, and friends were the focus of her life. She enjoyed family times at holidays with her husband, children, grandchild, brother, sisters, nieces and nephews. She treasured her time with her granddaughter, Ryleigh. Jackie was blessed to be surrounded by neighbors who became like family after living near each other for so many years. She was a beloved member of the Longmont United Methodist Church for thirty-nine years. Jackie was a very active member of her church, having sung in the choir, been a member of Wesley Ann's, Sarah's Circle, and participated in Missions work. Jackie had the opportunity to travel extensively throughout the United States and Canada. She and Gene travelled with their trailer wherever Gene's wanderlust took them. In their later years, they became snowbirds and spent part of their winters in Arizona. Jackie enjoyed playing golf and Bridge. She was a competitive golfer and often shot rounds in the low 40's for 9 holes. Her shots rarely strayed from the fairway. Bridge was a passion for her. Whether she was playing with family or friends the competition and strategy seemed to be always in her favor. She was a devoted Nebraska Cornhuskers and Denver Broncos fan. She loved watching the Rockies on TV. Jackie was preceded in death by her husband Gene, Father Earl, Mother Clara, and brother Rollie. She is further survived by one sister Phyllis Kendle and husband Don of Lincoln, Nebraska; two sister-in-laws, Audrey Haas of Lincoln, Nebraska; Ramona Barclay of Savannah, Georgia; and numerous nieces and nephews. A Visitation (1:00 PM) and Memorial Service (2:00 PM) are scheduled for Saturday, August 9 at the First United Methodist Church located at 11th and Emery St. in Longmont. A light lunch reception will follow in the Fellowship Hall. Memorial contributions may be made in Jackie's name to the First United Methodist Church (Permanent Endowment Fund), 350 11th Ave., Longmont, Colorado, 80501.
