Leona Moore Obituary
Leona Moore, 95, of Longmont, died July 29, 2013 at Longmont United Hospital. Leona was born on January 18, 1918 to Myrtle and Irven Simmons in Longmont, CO. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Robert E. Moore and son, Dr. R.D. Moore, and four sisters, Pauline Johnson, Mildred Leman, Fern Taylor and Jean Estes. Leona lived her entire life in the Longmont area and was married to Robert E. Moore for 65 years. Leona was involved in many local activities. She received her beautician license as a young woman. She was a member of the Rinn United Methodist Church where she was the organist for many years, a member of the First United Methodist Church of Longmont and Sara Circle, and a member of Rinn Valley Grange and sewing club. Leona was past president of the Longmont United Hospital volunteer organization where she volunteered for 47+ years and was active in the hospital's Prestige Club, a weekly workout group. She was also active in the social sorority Delta Phi, Epsilon Sigma Alpha. Leona's main passion was music. She was an accomplished pianist and spent many years as an accompanist for a long list of local musicians and her church choir. She was active in the Wednesday Music Club, enjoying all types of music presentations and attending theater and music productions. Leona is survived by her two daughters, Mardell (Craton) Burkholder of Aspen, Colorado and Donna (Bob) Allen of Greeley, Colorado and her daughter-in-law, Lorene Moore of Fountain, Colorado; six grandchildren, Robert D. (Cyndi) Moore II of Trinidad, Colorado, Mardell Moore of New York City, Trent (Preethi) Burkholder of Longmont, Colorado, Trevi (Jeremy) Bennett of Aspen, Colorado, Robin Allen of Denver, Colorado and Brett (Lynne) Allen of Henderson, Nevada; seven great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. Leona was a devoted mother and grandmother and will be greatly missed. Services will be held at 10:45 a.m. on Friday, August 23, 2013 at First United Methodist Church, 350 11th Avenue in Longmont. A plaque will be placed in the Surgery Waiting Room at Longmont United Hospital.
