Wilfred Wilts Obituary
Wilfred (Willie) Wilts, age 91, of Tea, SD passed away early Friday morning at Longmont United Hospital while hospitalized for pneumonia. During his stays over the past few years, he grew to know and love many of the wonderful, caring Doctors, Nurses and staff and we all appreciated the love they showed towards him. He was 'Dad' to 12, "Opa" to 46, Great-Grandpa to 103, and Great-Great Grandpa to 8. He was preceded in death by his wife Frances (Highstreet), second-wife Bernice (Klinghagen), his Special Friend Donna Smith, daughter Gloria (Steever), son Jim Wilts, and several Grandchildren. Willie served in the Army Air Corp during WWII, flying 51 missions as a waist gunner, mostly on a B-17 Flying Fortress in the European arena. After the war, he returned to his SD hometown where he farmed and worked at John Morrell Company for over 25 years. He moved to Colorado in 1990 where he led an active life, enjoying the company of friends, family and neighbors. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him. Friends and family are invited to a Celebration of Willie's Life at the home he shared with his son, Wendell and daughter-in-law Denise on Sunday, Feb 24 from 1-5pm. He will be laid to rest with Military Honors at Germantown Township Cemetery in South Dakota next week. The family asks that Memorial contributions be made to his favorite charity, Smile Train (www.smiletrain.org).
