Jonas Evans Smith passed away March 16, 2014 in Albuquerque, New Mexico. He was 43 years old. Jonas was born on June 16, 1970 in Augusta, Georgia. He graduated from Woodland Park High School and then attended Metro State University and Blackstone College where he graduated as a paralegal. Jonas lived in many locations throughout his life including Woodland Park, CO, Longmont, CO, Phoenix, AZ, Grapevine, TX, and Albuquerque, NM. He was a highly acclaimed chef working at the Brown Palace, the Broadmoor, Jax Fish House, The Wolfeboro Inn on Lake Winnepesaukee, NH and the El Fenix Famous Mexican restaurant in Dallas, TX. He lovingly prepared many glorious feasts for family gatherings and friends. Jonas also worked as a journeyman plumber, a pipe fitter and a welder. In recent years he volunteered his time at many thrift stores and 'soup kitchens' that feed the masses. Jonas loved being outdoors fishing, hiking and camping. He was an avid reader and writer, loved music and listened to all kinds of different genres. Being a talented chess master did not stop Jonas from loving Texas Hold' Em or any other form of poker. He was always the life of the party and loved telling and playing practical jokes. Being a good sport, he was often the willing recipient of many practical jokes! Jonas had a big warm heart, was passionate about everything he did and would give his shirt to help anyone in need. Jonas is survived by his parents Deborah (Mike) Zarich of Longmont and Richard Evans Smith; his brothers John Abram Smith (Sumie) of Boulder and Michael Zarich (Susan) of Houston; his sisters Mina Zarich of Longmont, Willow Zarich of Longmont, and Kalyca Zarich of Longmont; his grandparents Perry and Jean Langer of Longmont and Ray and Della Smith of Albuquerque, NM; his nephew Dillon Lee and numerous other nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
