Joyce Lofquist Obituary
Joyce Elaine (Wallin) Lofquist, 83, of Longmont, Colorado died March 30, 2014 at Memory Care at Seven Lakes in Loveland, CO following a long battle with dementia. Joyce was born November 1, 1930 to Victor and Regenia (Porter) Wallin at the family farm house in Laurens, Iowa. This was at the time of the Great Depression, tough times to be growing up in the midwest, a time Joyce noted when they couldn't even afford to mail a letter due to the cost of a three cent stamp. To help supplement their farming income, her family raised St. Bernard dogs under the name of 'Wallin Kennel' and sold and shipped many St. Bernard pups all over North America. Joyce was especially fond of the dogs and loved being part of this enterprise. After her high school graduation, Joyce moved to Chicago and attended nursing school at Augustana College and graduated as a registered nurse. She continued her education and later graduated from Buena Vista College with a BSRN. She married Loren Lofquist January 13, 1952 and moved to Ft. Dodge where she worked for Dr. Hoyt Allen in his practice and also worked as an OB Nurse at the Ft. Dodge Lutheran and then Trinity Hospital, a job she continued until 1985 when she and Loren moved to Longmont, CO. Joyce was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Longmont, loved to travel and enjoyed her family. She also studied genealogy for many years; many trips they took involved stops at libraries and churches along the way as Joyce truly loved gathering the many bits of information that helped her tie together her family's roots in this country and overseas. Joyce is survived by her husband of 62 years, Loren Lofquist of Longmont, her children Randy (Alicia) Lofquist of Loveland and Carolyn (Jeff) Kennedy of Carmel, Indiana, brothers Wayne Wallin of Daytona Beach, Florida and Lyle (Barbara) Wallin of Laurens, Iowa. She is further survived by her grandchildren and great grandchildren: Jeremy (Dana) Lofquist and their children Alec and Alyce, Kim Allen and her children Kaitlyn and Aden, Joel Lofquist, Jay Lofquist, Ali Lofquist, Sarah Kennedy, Elizabeth (Igor) Bogojevic and Hannah Kennedy as well as many other family and friends. Cremation has been entrusted to Howe Mortuary and Cremation Services. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, April 8, 2014 at the First United Methodist Church in Longmont with Reverend Dave Lillie officiating. Contributions in Joyce's memory are requested to the Longmont Humane Society or the , in care of Howe Mortuary. Condolences may be sent to the family at
