Byron “Bud” Augustus Yost, 96, of Longmont passed away May 29, 2014. He was born on June 29, 1917 in New Columbia, PA to Oliver and Sarah (Gehris) Yost and raised on a farm in NE Kansas, near Sabetha. Bud's parents were farmers and his father, a good practical horse vet, sparked Bud's interest in medicine. Bud drove horses for every kind of farm work. For sheer joy he rode horses at every opportunity, always bareback. He attended a one-room country school, but went into town for high school graduating from Sabetha High School where he was president of his class. Bud did his undergrad at Kansas State University and a MA in History and MD as a General Practitioner Surgeon from University of Kansas. During WWII, Bud quit his teaching position to serve as sergeant on the guard force at Sunflower Ordnance in Eudora, Kansas, Bud married Ruth Germann on April 4, 1942 in Lawrence, Kansas and they enjoyed 72 years together. In 1951 they moved to the Longmont area from Wellington, Kansas where he served the Erie community and surrounding coal mines until 1954. At that time the family moved to Longmont where Bud was a Family Practice doctor. His career spanned 52 years. Bud was raised in the Congregational Church in Kansas and attended this church in Longmont for many years until he became too elderly. He is a member of First United Church of Christ, American Academy of Family Practice and American Medical Society, founding member of St. Vrain Roundup Club, Longmont Old Timer's Rodeo Club, Longs Peak Barbershopper's Chorus, National Rifle Association, American Field Service, Lions Club and Masons. Bud was a man of many and varied interests including history and cultures, music, art, riding their gold wing motorcycle, swimming, tennis, guns and hunting, skiing and being on the medical ski patrol at Winter Park and Eldora, horses and riding and roping, traveling, but especially caring for his patients. He truly enjoyed his friends, and loving his wife and family. Bud is preceded in death by his parents, a brother Faunt “Mike” Yost, and a sister, Fern Yost. He is survived by his wife Ruth, daughters - Rebecca Curtis (Jay) of Colorado Springs, Sally Jesser (Bill) of Longmont, Penny Zvejnieks (Sig) of Rapid City, SD, and Trudy Shepard (Guy) of Missoula, MT; grandchildren - Robert Curtis (Margaret), David Curtis, Mandy Jesser, Teri Jesser, Kip Jesser, Kyle Zvejnieks, Jaclyn Zvejnieks, and Nathan Zvejnieks.
