Eugene Fabiano

Obituary Condolences

Eugene Fabiano was born May 16, 1926 in Brooklyn, New York to Frank Fabiano and Ernestine Pingitore. His parents moved the family to Lily, Pennsylvania, where his father worked as a coal miner. Eugene was selected to attend the Virginia Military Institute after graduating from Lily High School, and he was subsequently drafted into the United States Army. He served in Europe during World War II. Following his service he attended The University of Pittsburgh, from which he received a Master's Degree in Mathematics. He met Lutgarde DeBeusscher in Washington, D.C. in 1960 and they married in 1961. After two years of teaching high school math, Eugene began working for the U.S. Department of the Interior. His expertise in mathematics led him to become one of two geophysicists employed by the government to create maps of the earth's magnetic waves for use by the U.S. Navy and Air Force for navigation. He moved his family to Longmont in 1971 after his government offices relocated to Golden, Colorado. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. He considered himself a life-long learner and teacher, reading multiple newspapers and news magazines daily and instilling a love of reading in his children and grandchildren. In his years after retirement he tutored students in math and was an avid reader of essays on literature and culture. He was preceded in death by his father, Frank; mother, Ernestine; sister-in-law, Mary; and brother-in-law, Edward. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Lutgarde; brother Joseph, of Washington, D.C.; sons Mike, of San Diego, California; Ted, of Olathe, Kansas; daughter Cathy, of Arvada, Colorado; grandchildren Graciela and Fiona, daughters of Mike; Dominic and Vincent, sons of Ted; and Colin and Carter, sons of Cathy. He will be greatly missed for his sense of humor, service to others, and devotion to his family. Rosary Prayers at 10:30 AM Wednesday June 25, 2014 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church; a Memorial Mass will follow at 11:00 AM. Memorial contributions to the St. Johns Building Fund in care of Ahlberg Funeral Chapel. Cremation entrusted to Ahlberg Funeral Chapel and Crematory. Inurnment at Foothills Gardens of Memory.
