Jeane (Baller) Law Obituary
Jeane (Baller) Law, 99 years old, of Longmont, Colorado passed away August 13, 2014 at Beatrice Hover Assisted Living in Longmont due to natural causes. Jeane was born March 16, 1915 outside of Longmont, Colorado to Albert and Irene (Millice) Baller. She was raised on the shores of Swede Lake near Hwy 52 & 287, first called Baller Lake when three farms surrounding it were homesteaded by her grandparents Andrew and Sophia (Larson) Baller and Baller's two brothers all who came from Sweden. Before her marriage Sophia Larson worked in the home of then Governor John Evans in Denver for a time. Jeane was also the granddaughter of Amos and Orlie Ann (Barr) Millice, early settlers to the Longmont area. Amos came to Colorado across the plains in 1871. A year later he married and brought his bride from Missouri to his new-found home in the shadows of the mountains where they bravely faced the toils, trials and sacrifices of the pioneers. When the Chicago Colony was forming Longmont, Millice joined the Colony and was also employed by the Engineer's Corps to help survey the town and lay the company ditch. Growing up on the farm south of Longmont, Jeane grew to love sewing and was in 4H. She graduated from Longmont High School in 1933. She worked at the Elkhorn Lodge in Estes Park for a time where she met her husband Arthur Law in 1934 and they were married on October 2, 1936. Art's parents were George & Emma Law from Windsor, Colorado. Art and Jeane relocated to California in El Segundo where Art worked at Chevron Oil and here they raised their two children Barbara and William. Later they lived in Santa Monica to take care of Jeane's aunt Dora Millice until her death at which time Art was retired and they returned to Longmont, Colorado. Jeane was a kind and gentle woman, an excellent seamstress, had a knack for growing flowers and in her later years became an amazing artist painting with oils. She enjoyed playing cards, dominos, bingo and occasionally going to Black Hawk or Las Vegas. Jeane was also a caretaker for loved ones during her life time, seeing them through their deaths. She was loved and admired by numerous nieces and nephews and made a lot of special friends throughout her lifetime. Preceding her in death is her husband, Arthur, her son William, three sisters and their spouses, Dorothy (John) Hartman; Glendora (Harold) Yeager; Carol (Harold) Jones and one brother Ivan "Pete" (Maxine Williams) Baller. She is survived by her daughter Barbara (Chuck) Powers of California, granddaughter Kelly Stuart of New York, grandson Timothy (Jennifer) Powers of Missouri, three great granddaughters and one great great grandson; several nieces and nephews. A celebration of life for Jeane will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 20 in All Faiths Chapel at Beatrice Hover Assisted Living. Cremation arrangements have been entrusted to Howe Mortuary and Cremation Services of Longmont. In lieu of flowers donations can be given to TRU Community Care Hospice, 2594 Trailridge Drive E, Lafayette, CO 80026. Share condolences at
